Overview

MCSN has successfully completed the 2023 royalty distribution cycle, with payments processed and notifications dispatched to members whose works generated income during the period. This distribution reflects the Society's ongoing commitment to ensuring that music creators receive fair compensation for the use of their works.

Members are encouraged to review their statements carefully and contact MCSN with any queries regarding their allocations.

What the Distribution Covers

The 2023 distribution covers royalties collected from the following licensed uses of musical works during the 2023 calendar year:

Public Performances

Royalties from licensed hotels, restaurants, bars, retail outlets, and live event venues that used music publicly during 2023

Broadcasts

Licence fees collected from radio and television stations for the broadcast of musical works throughout the year

Other Authorised Uses

Fees from other licensed users including digital platforms and background music service providers operating under MCSN licences

Collection Challenges

MCSN acknowledges that the 2023 distribution was impacted by declining collectionsresulting from music users failing to respond to licensing invoices. This remains a significant challenge to the Society's ability to maximise distributions for members.

Non-Compliance by Music Users

A number of broadcasters, event organisers, hotels, and restaurants have delayed or avoided payment of licensing fees owed to MCSN. This directly reduces the pool of funds available for distribution to members.

Broadcasters not responding to licence renewal invoices
Event organisers failing to obtain performance licences
Hotels and restaurants avoiding or delaying payments
General non-compliance reducing overall collection revenue
MCSN continues to pursue all available legal and administrative remedies to improve compliance rates and protect the income of its members.
